Angels for the Aged
Angels for the Aged formed as a non-profit organization after a group of dedicated volunteers came together with the desire to serve the residents of nursing homes in our area with love and compassion as the motivating force. It soon became clear that there was much we could do to bring joy and hope to the residents and many worthwhile activities have been conducted to date, including cook-outs, games, pet therapy, and musical entertainment.
If awarded funds from the Investment Recycling Initiative, we would provide music therapy to nursing home residents by providing music of their age, genre, or life experiences, like old gospels, thus stimulating memory and allowing them to reminisce in a way that research has proven can lower blood pressure. When music therapy programs are implemented in nursing homes, there is increased joy, happiness, and residents feel a greater sense of peace and community. A good music therapy program can increase well being in physical, mental, and spiritual levels.
To find out more about Angels for the Aged and the programs they offer, please visit their website at www.angelsfortheaged.org.

The Armadillo Dash Half Marathon and 5K is a non-profit corporation with a 501(c)(3) status. For the last four years, the Armadillo Dash has donated funds from the race to Scotty’s House and Still Creek Boys and Girls Ranch. Our goal is to continue to grow participation, create a commitment to healthy behaviors and exercise, and give back to the children in our community. The 2010 Armadillo Dash was a huge success and our biggest year yet where 1,570 runners did the dash! Our numbers for the race on March 6, 2011 already look outstanding and we are hoping to get over 2,000 runners. In order to reach our goals, we are asking for your support.

Once horses and other equines are rehabilitated, BEHS adopts them to approved homes.
If awarded, BEHS will use funds from the Investment Recycling Initiative to help provide veterinary care to horses that come from neglect/abuse cases, who are abandoned, or who are found stray and come into the BEHS fostering and rehabilitation program. These horses are often malnourished and need routine veterinary care, gelding (neutering), and treatment of illnesses or injuries sustained before being removed from negligent owners or picked up in abandonment or astray cases.

If awarded, the funds from the Investment Recycling Initiative would be used to buy play therapy supplies. For a child, play is the safest & easiest way to express themselves because they don’t have the verbal ability/cognitive development to fully express their needs, emotions, and pain. The Museum of the American G.I. is the best kept secret in the Brazos Valley. We have the collection and the land for the museum facilities and activities. We need an on-site building to house the museum collection. Site work has begun. The foundation and the building shell should be completed by July 2011. The final completion of the building will require community support and donations. Monies received from the BVB Initiative program will be used to facilitate the building completion.

My Heart Guardian Angel Dolls
My Heart Guardian Angel Dolls (MHGAD) donates its uniquely designed angel dolls to facilities, organizations, professionals, and individuals who care for, treat, and/or rehabilitate children who are experiencing traumatic circumstances. The dolls are inspired by REAL children and whose memories/lives Elin Phillips wanted to honor. The dolls are meant to comfort or provide a distraction for children during their time of crisis.
If awarded, funding from the Investment Recycling Initiative will be used to manufacture more dolls. In order for MHGAD to continue, dolls must be available. Voices For Children was one of the original recipients of the angel dolls, and we've been asked by quite a few CASAs to be put on the waiting list for more dolls to give to the children they serve. Local first responders/police/ambulances are also on the list to donate to, so that children in immediate crisis can receive dolls. Scott & White is a recipient as well. And with their new hospital scheduled to open, MHGAD hopes to have dolls available for the pediatric wing. Funding will also be utilized in the promotion of the organization through literature and other promotional items.
For more information on My Heart Guardian Angel Dolls, please visit their website at www.myheartangels.org.
New Somang Presbyterian Church
The New Somang Presbyterian Church is a modest community of 30 members, whose purpose is to serve the Korean and Korean American population of the Brazos Valley. The purpose of our church is to keep the doctrine righteous, the faith righteous, and the life righteous. In addition to the main service, the church maintains a Sunday school for toddlers and primary school students, and the Young Collegiate Discipleship for all ages 5th grade and up.
Since its beginnings, the church has had difficulty paying the pastor’s wages. The church has not been able to provide for all of his living expenses. A portion of the funds, if awarded, would be used defray these costs. Our main concern lies with the youth. Our church addresses the role of Korean American students who most likely will build their futures in the United States. This requires them to make sense of their faith from multiple angles. The church would like to broaden their perspectives on the world around them, and at the same time, discipline their hearts and minds on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Because they are required to forge their own identities that are far different from those of their parents, the church’s youth program aims to ground them in the Bible and simultaneously allow them to freedom to form the church of tomorrow. We would use the funds to buy Bible study workbooks. Also, the youth group does not have a praise team. We would like to bring music into the service and give an outlet to our musically gifted students.
For more information about the New Somang Presbyterian Church, please contact Sung S. Kim, 2500 Central Park Lane #803, College Station, Texas 77840.
